Called by the Mountains, Held by the Sea | A Seward Highway Alaska Story
Share
There are moments in life that don’t just pass by… they change you.
I remember the first time I saw the mountains meet the water.
I was born on the East Coast, where the land and ocean exist beside each other, but never quite like this. I had never experienced anything so vast, so raw, so undeniably powerful.
Leaving Anchorage, heading south along the Seward Highway, it begins quietly. The road stretches forward, hugging the edge of something you can’t fully see yet.
And then… it happens.
That unforgettable moment.
Mountains rising to your left ~ towering, ancient, steady.
And to your right, the wide, untamed beauty of the Cook Inlet, stretching out farther than your eyes can follow.
It’s not just a view.
It’s a feeling.
Something inside you shifts.
In that moment, my life changed.
I realized the planet speaks to us… not in words, but in presence. In stillness. In awe. In the way it stops you without warning and asks you to feel something deeper than you ever have before.
Standing there between mountain and water, I knew something I couldn’t yet explain ~ I was home. Not in the way we think of home as a place on a map, but in the way your soul recognizes something before your mind can understand it.
The mountains called to me.
The water called to me.
And I listened.
From that moment on, life was never the same. I saw things differently. I felt things more deeply. I understood that there are places in this world that don’t just exist…
They find you.
And when they do, they change you forever.
